CICM Briefing Session: Introduction to Revised Employee Health & Safety and Environmental Protection Codes – March 31, 2022

CICM Briefing Session
At the heart of the Responsible Care initiative are the Codes of Management Practices. The Codes focused on specific areas of chemical manufacturing, transportation, research and handling and companies must in good-faith make continuous efforts to attain the goals of each Code.  The Employee Health and Safety (EHS) and Pollution Prevention Codes (PP) were first introduced in the late 1990s to support the implementation of Responsible Care by chemical companies. In 2020, the Responsible Care Technical Committee began their review and update exercise to ensure these Codes are updated and in line with current practices and trends.

The Responsible Care Technical Committee completed the review and revisions for the EHS Code and also Environmental Protection (EP) Code (formerly known as Pollution Prevention Code) in end 2021 and a briefing session was organized virtually to update the revisions made. The briefing session was attended by close to 80 participants from Responsible Care signatory companies, CICM membership and members of the sub-sector chemical groups.  Mr Paul R Ellis, Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Responsible Care Committee opened the briefing session. It was followed by the presentations and Q&A sessions on the EHS and EP Codes conducted by En Radzi Abdul Rashid, En Tajuddin b Mohamad Yunos and Mr C Balakrishnan, Members of the Responsible Care Technical Committee. Recording of the briefing session could be viewed at CICM’s YouTube account:
